The Legend of Sleepy Hollow [2026]

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Clemson Little Theatre

September 11-20, 2026

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is based on the classic American short story by Washington Irving.

It challenges us to question whether the monsters that go bump in the night are the work of our imagination or reality.

Director’s Note

Imagination is a powerful thing. When something goes bump in the night, there is a moment–no matter how logical we may be–that monsters are real. Through the power of mere suggestion, our imagination can create far greater horrors than reality. We do this not only with the things in the dark, but all kinds of things that scare us. We can invent stories in our minds that feel so real we start to believe them in place of truth. Stories about what people think about us, or about the type of person we are, or about who loves us. The challenge for you in the audience today is to peel back the layers of fantasy to discover the truth. See things as they really are. Not just about the monsters, but the people too. Is the Headless Horseman real? Is Ichabod the kind of man he believes himself to be? Does Katrina really love him back? Because no matter how scary the truth is, it is our responsibility to leave the theater with eyes opened.
